Irishdev.com slip-up kills dole.ie!

Dole.ie provides a one stop shop for job hunters, the site spiders and indexes many of the larger Irish job sites. One of the notable features that dole.ie provide is a RSS feed. Many of the job sites that it spiders do not offer this service.
According to a post over on boards.ie Webmaster/Flash forum, Irishdev.com has been hammering dole.ie with requests for its search RSS feed. As a result dole.ie was forced to shutdown temporarily for about 12/24 hours until a solution could be found.
The interesting fact behind this saga is that irishdev.com seems to have passed all of the content off as its own, with no reference to Dole. Ok come on you steal their content … hammer their box … then pass the content off as your own! Cop on lads!
On the bright side .. IrishDev now say that they will only grab the content once every 3 hours. How nice of them! No mention of credit for the RSS or content.

Hi Jason-Roe,
I love the advertorial intro to Dole as a one stop shop for Job Hunters?
We’ve not yet replied to the Boards.ie thread as Stephen from Dole posted without the courtesy of informing us. I guess it’s easier to have dialogue about us / without us?
I suggest you check back on Boards where later today we will be adding our side of the story.
I’ll email you a copy of our post as it goes live.

Fergal Breen,

Hi Fergal,
I have met with you before, you many not remember meeting with me.
I know it’s not your style to go doing something like this. This is one of the reasons I was so shocked that this was going on. Note the “slip-up in the title.
I would be glad to get you side of the story, as you said, none was provided to-date. I will revise the post as more information comes in.
Thanks & Best Regards,
Jason Roe

Hi Jason,
I do indeed. We shared a drink if memory serves.
To be honest I posted harshly here. I was only informed about the Boards posts yesterday evening and was disappointed as in fact I’ve been bug tracking the issue since Monday between work.
So still a raw nerve. Anyhow, I appreciate your fast and soothing response. Aesop’s fables, lion/paw/needle all that
Talk to you again pre-Chrimbo I hope?

Without wanting to make any judgement, yor explanation doesn’t tally with what’s been published over on boards.ie:
http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=52411295&postcount=27
Again, I have no first-hand knowledge of email discourse on this, but they do seem to be of the belief that someone over at irishdev.com replied to their concerns? Albeit without any tact judging by the thread on boards.
Why no public response from irishdev?

My comment was in response to:
“We’ve not yet replied to the Boards.ie thread .. I suggest you check back on Boards where later today we will be adding our side of the story. ”
I would love to see a response from IrishDev.com on boards.ie! It might be a good idea to also explain the cause of the “bug”.

As I said on boards, if this happened to a site I controlled I would send back a very *special* feed
December 1st, 2006 at 2:48 pm
Maybe they did send a very special feed…
We are publicly replying. I’m writing my response now.
He could have tried contacting us before going nuts on boards and sending cease and desist RIAA style emails.
Anyhow. Let’s judge it when I reply on Boards.
Tell you what, Boards (not that they need it) and Dole (who do) are making great PR… hee hee hee

Where did the thread go? What did i miss!?!!
December 2nd, 2006 at 10:06 am
Seems to have been deleted.
There was a modicum of mud slinging. Damien Mulley got very upset with the use of his name, Fergal Breen (IMO) didn’t give a very satisfactory response.
It got a bit fiery and was deleted.
I cant login to boards (maybe been banned?) but did manage to reset my password (maybe not banned enough ).
Just another day….
@Fergal I sent you a PM via boards.

Anyone got a copy of the mud slinging?

Don’t have a copy of the mud slinging, but Fergal Green / Irishdev.com came across very badly - arrogant, dismissive and unprofessional. The thread got pulled because another poster (not the dole.ie person) threatened legal action again Irishdev.
